West Cove Arches
This area is called West Cove on the Topo maps we have and it has
numerous arches. The most prominent arch is Morning Arch, but there
are more in this area and they are more difficult to spot. There are
also other features to enjoy here, like a balanced rock, alcoves,
spires and a balanced head. We spotted at least three arches not
counting Morning Arch. The terrain is not difficult, but I would avoid
going if the weather is going to be wet. There are several dry washes
that need to be crossed to get close to the arches and other feaures
The coordinates for this area are N37°
8.031' & W 111° 56.945'. To get there head to Kanab and just
before you start up the passing lane at the Cockscomb there is a small
drive on the right (north) side of the highway. Any type of vehicle can
be used. Be sure to leave the gate as you find it (open or closed). The
coordinates are just general for the area as the arches all along the
walls. You might want to spend some time just walking into all the
"coves" and see what is in each one.

on the southeast wall.

For size perspective, that is me.

Closer view of the arch.

Closer still.

You can see the light behind the arch.

A different arch.

Same arch as above picture.

Arch northwest of Morning Arch.

Long view of arch to the northwest.

Is it a balanced head?

Does this qualify as a bird-brain?

Same balanced rock, different angle.
